Navigation on the Paraná River in a Traditional Barged

Exploring the Paraná aboard an authentic barge guided by local fisherman baqueanos (expert) is a journey into the river’s quiet, hidden heart. From the water, secluded bays, dense forest, silent islands, and landscapes unreachable by land reveal themselves.

The baqueanos, masters of every current, share stories of river life while the boat slips into places where time seems to stand still. Deep in the jungle lies the old Jesuit quarry, where, over 400 years ago, Guaraní people and Jesuit missionaries cut the stones used to build the Mission of San Cosme y Damián.

Nearby, partly swallowed by vegetation, you can glimpse the entrance of the abandoned tunnel that once linked the riverside to the mission—a relic that sparks curiosity and adds a touch of mystery to the journey.

This navigation is more than an excursion; it is a serene and revealing experience, guided by those who have lived in harmony with the Paraná for generations.
